I was just surfing through my blogs, knitandcrochetpatternchat.blogspot.com, for one, this one, and was checking where page views come from, who is viewing my blogs, etc. and discovered this website that has listed my tea cozy pattern on her website..  I was excited to see that.

New Crochet Project

We're just about to get on the road again after spending all winter at Rio Bend RV park as workampers........I've been teaching Zumba Fitness and my husband working in the maintenance department.  When we're on the road, we're heading home to Washington State, I love to knit or crochet.

My next project will be to make another of those chair arm bags only this time I want to use plastic grocery bags.  I think it'll have less sag and more stability.  It's been so nice to have it hanging there with my journal, puzzles, pens, pencils and phone right at hand.  It's big enough to add a little snack, too.

So here it is repeated:

Ok, so here's the pattern as promised.  If you crochet, you know how to make adjustments for your chair arm.  Make sure you measure. 

Chair Pocket

Cotton yarn
G hook
Gauge isn't that important

Chain 40

Round 1, SC in 2ndh chain from hook and each chain to end, SC 3 in end chain and do not turn but continue crocheting around the other side of the 40 chains adding 2 in the end stitch.

Rounds 2 and 3, repeat round 1 so you have 3 rounds with increases on each end.

Round 4, SC in each stitch around with NO increases for about 3 rows, or desired number of rows to make a more solid bottom.

Round 6, if you want, change to a DC around each row for about 17 or desired size of pouch.  

Because you crocheted around, the stitches/rows tend to twist so begin next row by slip stitch to the corner so the flap goes straight up the side.  About 4 sts.

Now crochet in rows going back and forth to the desired length so that it fits around the arm of your chair.  I am using mine on a passenger seat in the motor home so they are quite thick and big.  I did 35 rows and then:

If you want a contrasting color, I had to because I ran out of the orange, attach it at the top in corner going down the side of the flap till you get to the pouch, sc across the top of the pouch and back up the other side of the flap.  End off.

Try the pouch on the arm and determine where the buttons should go.  I used 3 but 4 might be better depending on the width of your pouch.  Sew on buttons and use the spaces between the DC as button holes.  Waalaa!  Chair pouch!

FREE Crochet Pattern in the Writing Stage

I am working on my version of the chair pocket pattern.  It's just a different stitch and being my chair arm is so different, there needed to be some revisions.

I must apologize that my chair pocket is weird........I ran out of the orange cotton yarn and finished with another color but, hey!, hit's for me and I really didn't care.

I'll come back tomorrow and post the pattern and a picture.

Free Pattern Coming! Crochet Chair Pocket

I was shown a pattern on FreePatterns.com.  It's called a chair pouch and crocheted with a different stitch than usual (a ds stitch which is a double stitch) and with nylon.  Great idea. 

I don't have any nylon to crochet with so am using cotton and I'm using a normal sc and a dc stitch.

I will be posting my pattern as soon as I can.  That pattern is also free so check it out, too.  I'm not saying mine is better, I like them both.

This pattern was drawn to my attention by a sweet lady on a crocheting yahoo group.  Thank you so much Lisa and she has a neat website.  Please check it out, too.

Free Crochet Pattern for a Tea Cozy

As promised, I will post a new and improved crochet pattern for my tea cozy.  I love love tea, don't you?  A hot cup of tea on a drizzly chilly rainy morning........oh, so good.

I posted a not-real-good picture of my purple one a month ago or so.  Where does time go!?  At least a month ago but I'm too lazy to go find out the exact date.  

I finally finished what I think is a tea cozy that should fit most round pot belly type tea pots.  It doesn't hurt to continue to measure as you go.  You do want it to fit?  If you do not join at the end of the rounds, make sure you use a marker.

I made two cozies and put one inside the other.  I also made the inside one a bit longer with a different colored edge so it showed beneath the upper one. Please read through instructions first and test your hook and yarn for the gauge.

Here we go:

Crochet hook size H
cotton yarn such as Sugar and Cream
I used one really large skein of Bernat bought at JoAnns, must have been a pound or two.  I don't have the label anymore
GAUGE:  8 STS TO 1" AND 5 ROWS TO 1"


1.  Chain 2, 8sc in 2nd chain from hook, join

2.  2 sc in each sc around, join  (16 sts)

3.  1 sc in first sc, (2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in next sc continue around in this manner) (24 sts)

4.  2 sc in first sc, (2 sc, 2 sc in next stitch, continue around in this manner) (32 sts)

5.  2 sc in first sc, (3 sc in next stitch, continue around in this manner)  (40 sts)

6.  2 sc in first sc, (4 sc, 2 sc in next stitch, continue around in this manner) (50 sts)

7. sc around one row

8.  2 sc in first sc, (5 sc, 2 sc in next stitch, continue around in this manner) (60 sts)

9.  sc around one row

10.  2 sc in first sc, (6 sc , 2sc in next stitch continue around in this manner) (70 sts)

11.  sc around one row

12.  2 sc in first sc, (7 sc, 2 sc in next stitch continue around in this manner) ( 80 sts)

13.  sc around one row

14.  2 sc in first sc, (8 sc, 2 sc in next stitch continue around in this manner) ( 90 sts)

15. and 16.  sc around

17.  2 sc in first sc, (9 sc in next stitch continue around in this manner) (100 sts)

18.  Now the tea cozy will begin cupping, or it should (LOL not funny I know) so continue with as many sc rows you need to make the cozy the length you want minus about 1".

When you reach this point:

1.  DC in each sc around, join if you are doing so or just keep going around.  Make sure you have the beginning marked.  

2.  Dc around dc from previous row from front to back making a post, dc around dc of previous row from back to front making a post and continue around.

3. Repeat rows one and two till the desired length.

4.  Sc around to finish

5.  Crochet a loop and attach it to the top


NOTES
I made mine double thickness so made another one and slipped it over the top of the first one.  They fit snugly.   The top one can be shorter than the underneath one or can be the same length.

If it isn't cupping or might be too big for your tea pot, you can decrease evenly about 5 stitches every few rows so you need to think ahead.

I sometimes change colors during this section of the process to make stripes.  You can join at the end of every row or not.  That's up to you but it does make for a neater finish if you plan on changing colors.

If you find any errors, please let me know........I wrote this as I worked so it should be correct.

Crochet Pattern for Tea Cozy

The crochet pattern for the tea cozy has some problems.  I am so glad I tried it myself.  Don't know what I was doing that day but I didn't like the way it turned out so I am going to re-write the pattern and re-post it.

So don't despair, I'll be back in a day or so because I am working on it right now.  I love this tea cozy so much, I shared the pattern and I cannot let it go without fixing it.

They make wonderful gifts and I was thinking that the word T E A could be applied with felt letter, embroidered, painted or whatever you can come up with.  How cute, huh?

I will post a picture of the new one, but hopefully, it'll come out like the purple one or way more like it than the pattern I posted.

FREE Crochet Pattern for a Tea Cozy

Just a little update!  This pattern is way off so don't try it till I rewrite it.  Which I am doing right now.  I will take this down when I'm done.

As promised, here's my pattern for my wonderful beautiful purple cotton crocheted tea cozy.  Can you tell I love it?  It works beautifully!  My tea stays hot for a long time, at least till I drink it all.  I love the deep purple color of the cotton yarn, too.

I have not tested this pattern so if you find anything wrong, or you question anything, let me know.  This is not rocket science so if you miss a stitch or don't have the exact number I came up with, it's no big deal.  Just make sure it fits your tea pot!

The yarn I used was a huge skein of cotton I bought at JoAnns Craft Store.  Might have been their brand but I cannot say for sure as the label was gone.  It is 100% cotton and I'm sure Sugar and Cream or any of the cottons would work.  I suppose a worsted weight yarn like Red Heart SuperSaver would work, too.  I did make two, as you can see in the photo, making one longer than the other and then added a crocheted loop at the top.  I felt if one layer would work, two would be better. 

If you know how to do tapestry crochet, using two colors, that would be fun, too.  I just didn't want to take the time to work out a pattern.  I'm always in a hurry.  I'm retired you know!  LOL

I started with a chain 5  MARK THE BEGINNING ROUND WITH A CONTRASTING COLOR YARN

sc in 2nd chain from hook

sc in next 3, 3 sc in last stitch, and sc in other side of chain in each chain, then 3 sc in end sc.

Continue the increase one row around to eliminate cupping too soon.

1.   2 sc in each side stitch and 3 sc on each end stitch, end with 3 sc in end stitch so you have about 36 stitches

2.   3 sc in 1st stitch, 1 sc to end and then 3 sc in the end stitch. Increasing only on the ends.

3.  3 sc in 1st st, 2 sc in next stittch and then 1 sc in each stitch until you reach the stitch before the end stitch then 2 sc, 3 sc in end stitch, and then 2 sc in next stitch and 1 sc in ea stitch till the other end and join in the top of the first sc of round.

4.  3 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in ea st to end, 3 sc in end st  there is no joining.

5. Repeat last row

6.  2 sc in first 3 sts, 1 sc in ea st to last 3 sts, then 2 sc in the 3 end sts

7.  repeat last row

8.  1 sc in ea st around increasing 2 sts ea side evenly (4 increases)

9.  Increase this round 4 times on each side and 1 increase on each end

10.  Repeat round 9

11.  1 sc each st around

12.  Repeat round 9 EXCEPT make the 4 increases each side towards the ends.  So that means round the end, increase 2 times within a few stitches, stitch around the end and within a few stitches again increase 2 times and then 1 sc to the other end.

13.  Repeat round 11~ 10 rounds or 10 times.  Make sure you have marked the beginning of your rounds

14.  DC around making sure you have an even number of stitches.  no need to join

15.  DC around from front to back of post the dc made in the last row.  DC around from back to front of the post the dc made in the last row.  Repeat around the front, around the back, around the front, etc. around.

If when you get to the end and you've got two posts, just use them both.

I did round 15, 6 times and the finished with a sc round and dec 10 stitches evenly around one more sc row.

I made two, one a little longer than the first or you can make them both the same.  Make sure you measure your teapot or at least try it on to measure the length several times before you end with the two sc rows.

I had fun making this pattern but not writing it down.  I'm not good at that but I give it my all and hope for the best.

Navy Acrylic Lace Scarf

Ok, here's the finished scarf. Sorry, I couldn't get a good picture of it that wasn't blurry so I will try to get my daughter to take a really good one for me and I'll post it. She's more professional at photography than I am. Her blog is www.jennileephotography.blogspot.com Check it out!

Anyway, I'm finally finished because I ran out of yarn! It only has around 4 ounces of fingering yarn in it and measures about 68". I was going for 72".

I'm still working on the white one and that'll take me a bit longer than this one. The navy one really only had about one row of lace patterning that took any thinking where the white one has 8 rows on thinking! LOL

Tell me what you think and let me know if you've tried this lace pattern.

Red Heart Faux Brioche Beret

I've made this hat pattern and found what I think is a mistake and have talked to them about it.  They agree but I don't know how long the correction will be made.  Correction is in red.


The pattern states:



Rounds 14-47: Repeat Rounds 12 and 13 seventeen (17) more times
Rounds 48-53: * K1, p1; repeat from * around.


How I think it should read is:


Rounds 14-53:  Repeat Rounds 12 and 13 twenty (20) more times


From there on use the pattern as written but continue to work into the rows below as long as the pattern allows, keeping in mind that the decreases will affect the numbers of stitches involved in the pattern.  You want to keep the raised rib as long as possible.


Hope this helps everyone.  I'm going to try a different on next.  I'll post some pix of this hat now and the next one later.

Red Heart Faux Brioche Beret

Red Heart Yarns or Coast and Clark, have so many free patterns for all levels of knitters and crocheters.  I've been playing around with different patterns but found this one the most fun so far.  Faux Brioche Beret calling for their Boutique yarn.  I say playing around because I don't have any Boutique yarn so tried it with the same size needles, size 9, but used 4 dpns because I didn't have the circular needle.

I started with size 8 dpns because I thought that's what I would use throughout but with increasing, I found they weren't long enough so I had some much longer size 9s that I had so switched to them when I had to increase.

I followed the pattern religiously as usual, but when it came to decreasing, I had a problem and it could have been my yarn choice but don't think so.  They have you decrease but you don't stay in the stitch pattern other than to k1 p1.  The whole beret was knitted one row knitting into the stitch of the row below and the purl row purling into the stitch of the row below.  When it came to decreasing, it didn't say to continue going into the stitch of the row below.  What happened was that it got too small to fast, I think and it created a definite line of pattern change and suddenly got flat and turned into a point!  I didn't like that at all.

I emailed Coats and Clark and have yet to hear but they are always so good about helping me with my questions I know I"ll hear sometime this week.

I ripped out all the decrease rows and reknitted them as stated but going into the row below wherever I possibly could.  It made a much better finish on the top, which is worn laying to the back.  Also, because I used the Super Saver yarn, I need to knit at least 4 more rows, I think.  That's my gauge anyway.

I think what drew me to it first was the coloration of the yarn.  Of course, mine isn't quite as pretty but I have some Super Saver variegated yarn I am going to try another one with at another time.  I have one started with Super Saver white right now.

I'll take a pix later.  I have, or am starting to list my items for sale on my facebook page.

The one I've really enjoyed is this one but there's many to try.
